Overview of the Proposed Bioenergy Project
The CDC Board is very excited about the project being discussed to produce sustainable energy at the Mill Site using biomass from the forest. Many people have asked about it so we thought we’d post a summary here.
First let me say that this is a project being considered. It is NOT certain yet that anything will happen. Let me tell you a little bit about the proposed project. The project being considered is a small-scale renewable energy system. It is called gasification and is a process by which wood chips and other wood product from the forest can be used to generate electricity. It is a clean process that will make our community more energy independent, while utilizing forest biomass material sustainably removed from surrounding forest lands. It could be a wonderful project for North Fork because it addresses several problems at once. It would generate energy from a renewable resource. It would promote thinning of the forest to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires while also improving forest health. It would also create some jobs in the forest, in transporting the material to the site and operating the facility. For additional info feel free to review the recently completed Feasibility Evaluation report, posted on the CDC website here.
The CDC board is unanimous in their commitment in only supporting this project if it meets very high standards regarding air quality, and sound limitations. We welcome the input and participation of you and anyone else in the community who would like to be involved.

CDC Signs MOU with Reliable Renewables 1/23/12
The CDC Board last night, approved the MOU (memorandum of understanding) between the CDC and Reliable Renewables, LLC. This Houston based firm was chosen as the “preferred vendor” after a Request for Information was sent to five firms specializing in bioenergy technology. The MOU simply expresses each party’s commitment to work together to see if a successful project can be realized. The MOU can be seen by clicking here (once the MOU is counter signed, it will be posted).

Notes from Meeting with Reliable Renewables 1/18/12
On January 18, board members Tom Burdette and Dan Rosenberg had a lunch meeting in San Francisco with Zach Scott, a representative of Reliable Renewables, LLC. This firm was selected as the “preferred vendor” in the recent process guided by TSS Consultants. To see the notes from this meeting, click here.
